The ONU Social Media Workshop

Just about two weeks ago I had the pleasure to attend the Fourth Annual ONU Social Media Workshop presented by ONU PRSSA. It was a great conference with excellent speakers that had so much great information to share with us and really knew what they were talking about. Keynoted by Amanda Todorovich who is the Senior Director of Content Marketing for Cleveland clinic.

Mrs. Todorovich's presentation was very interesting and offered a lot of great information on how to effectively build a brand, create content, curate content and she also talked for quite a while on the importance of knowing your audience, and also the great importance of knowing your engagement numbers. What I found most interesting about her presentation was how the content for a large hospital like that is geared to the specific time of the year and also how folks are less and less interested these days with the incredible stories and miracles that happen in hospitals every day. Amanda said that that particular social media strategy is ineffective when trying to engage with a larger portion of your audience because of the lack of interest from the majority of people, however with a story about how to lose a quick five pounds will absolutely kill the ratings right before spring break or summer.

Another presentation I went to that I really enjoyed was the Dublin Irish Festival presentation, what I enjoyed about this presentation is how the presenters Mary Jo DiSalvo and Sara O'Malley showed us how social media helped them build the Irish Festival to something that could be held on a few tennis courts to what it is now, a large scale festival that folks travels across the country for. It was really incredible how they used the festival goers to be their own advertising. What they did was they asked people that had gone to the Irish Festival before to post pictures of them having a great time and used those photos to advertise for the festival.

I learned a lot about social media, building a brand and much more at the Social Media Workshop. The speakers were excellent and all really knew what they were presenting about and were all very passionate about what they were doing as well. A great event all around.
