Chapter 9

This week we read and are going over chapter nine of Social Media for Strategic Communication, Chapter nine is all about Creating, Managing, and Curating social media content. Like every other chapter this chapter starts out with the story and an interview about a person in the social media world working and doing what they love. In this  chapter we meet Adam White who is a University of Miami graduate and currently works at Front Office sports a multi platform publication and industry resource that covers the intersection of sports and business. He got his start in social media when he got his first phone in high school and like everyone else used it mainly for the social aspect. Adam talks about the troubles of sticking to your brand and and staying fresh creating new content and not becoming stale. which is a problem I think everyone that creates content realizes and has to deal with. He also talks about how useful it is to know how to use all of the platforms and how to manipulate and work with all the types of media, specifically he talks about how he wishes he knew how to work with video. The chapter then goes into content marketing, types of content media, tools to create content, curating content, and lastly best practices.
The first section is content marketing, content marketing is using strategies and making a plan to accomplish set objectives where these tactics are what the basis of the social media plans.
the second section is aligning content, and that ties into what Adam said earlier in the chapter about creating new content and sticking to your brand. When trying to align all your content you need to make sure that your content is relevant to what you want your brand to be and also you need to make sure that the content is A1 great content which can be very difficult to do.
Next we talk about types of content, and there are a lot of different types of content that can reach people in very different ways. For example a radio ad is a type of content and that ad will likely reach different people than an ad that is run on Instagram. The types of content are almost endless and a list of them all is surely too long but a few notable ones are e-books, research reports, interviews with professionals, all forms of social media and many many more.
Just like there are almost endless types of media there are a lot of tools for creating content too, tools for creating text like blogger and grammarly, tools for creating video like imovie and other editing software. every social media app is a tool for creating media.
Curating content is interesting because its more about how you organize and display the content you created and also the content that is not yours but you want to share with the people that enjoy your content. and lastly common practices, these common practices seem somewhat simple however could be very helpful. one creating content that is worth sharing, don't just post content because you can post content that is great, along those same lines go the extra mile, and edit edit edit. Make sure you are looking at your statistics, know what they mean and how to interpret them.
There was a lot to learn from chapter nine and it offered a lot of great information.
