The Plastic Problem

A surfer finds his way blocked to Ipanema Beach

If you pay any attention at all to the media and or social media you'll know that there has recently been a push to do away with single use plastics like straws, single use water bottles, those plastic rings that keep 6 packs of sodas together and many more. Well it isn't just your nature loving roommate that is seeing the issue and talking about it. Corona, yes the Corona that makes beer is very aware of the situation and is doing something to grow awareness about the issue. Corona built a wall out of single use plastics that had been collected from famous Impanema Beach in Rio de Janiero Brazil in front of one of the most popular entrances to the beach.
The picture above shows the roughly six foot high 45 foot long wall made of plastic with the sign out front that roughly translates to English as "one day, the trash left on the beach will stop you from getting into it". I know that this very well could just be a PR stunt by Corona to get some good press or maybe they've identified those that frequent the beach are a demographic they would like to become more popular with. However for me it appears that Corona really is trying to make a difference here and encourage folks to reduce their use of plastics or at least to pick up after themselves and keep the beaches clean. Regardless of their intentions for their own benefit of for the benefit of the world I think this stunt will help encourage other large companies to stand up for what they as a company believe in and do what they can to make a difference.
