Chapter 7: Strategic Writing for Social Media

Like every other chapter in Social Media for Strategic Communication this chapter starts out by spotlighting a professional in the field. This week Jaryd Wilson, he works for the Atlanta Hawks an NBA franchise in you guessed it Atlanta. He works with their social media and has known he wanted to work in journalism since he was in high school.  Jaryd Went to The University of Missouri for his degree and quickly got a job at a fox affiliate on Colorado springs after college. He continues to go on to talk about how Jaryd and the other social media folks at the hawks use emojis to communicate with their fans as well as the importance of good grammar and how they communicate best with their fans.

Chapter seven is titled Strategic Writing for Social Media and the different topics covered in this chapter are content curation V.S. content creation, understanding tone V.S understanding voice, and lastly the best practices for social media writing.

content curation V.S. content creation, content curation is organizing and using content from others or that connects and works with the content you are creating. Content creation is 100% your own material that you wrote or made yourself, you might think that you would want only to post your own material but it is important to have a mix of both your own content and content created by other that you agree with or that shows what you are trying to say or relates to your blog.

understanding tone V.S. voice, tone and voice often get confused for each other while they are not the same they are connected. Voice is the different things you want your company to stand for, the things you want your company or personal brand to show and say about you. While tone is how you want to sound weather that be professional, or casual all based on what kind of content you are creating and who you are creating the content for.

The last section is best practice for social media writing, Grammar and spelling are more important than ever these days with the importance of a first impression being everything. With the use of different online applications you can use it is now easier than ever to ensure that your grammar and spelling are as good as they can be.

Chapter seven offered a lot of great information about what to do and what not to do with social media when creating media and how to manage that media in the best way.
