Social Media: Voices for all

Social media has changed the world we live in many times, from ranking your friends and playing your favorite song while people viewed your profile on Myspace, to compacting one's thoughts and ideas into 140 or now 280 characters, or even posting pictures about anything and everything. Social media has come a long way in the recent past and is likely to continue to grow right before our eyes. But the biggest impact social media has had on society is not the dependence on ones phone or even the need to document every little aspect of your life it is the voice that it gives each and every person with an account.

Social media gives everyone a voice even those that might not deserve a voice. Social media has changed the game when it comes to expressing your opinion. There are people every day that go viral because the opinion they have that they think is something that others may not do or may not relate do but connects with thousands upon thousands of people. These platforms also give larger voices to people that may already be influencers, from the kardashians to the president of the united states past and present social media is almost a non stop press conference where no reporters ask questions but you get answers to the questions you didn't know you had.

Most recently social media gave a saints football player a bigger voice than he likely would have had without it when the referee’s neglected to make a game altering call, what New Orleans Saints tight end Benjamin Watson did was turn to twitter to enlighten all those reading about an obscure rule that give the commissioner of the NFL the power to overturn the outcome of a single game or even force the teams to replay each other due to extraordinary circumstances. Though nothing was done by the NFL to right their wrongs Watson was certainly heard and may be the spark that starts some very interesting rule changes in the NFL.
